Editor’s Note: Just like a young, ramen-noodle-haired Justin Timberlake once said, “it’s gonna be May.” Well, now it actually is, and the comedy stages around Massachusetts are continuing to bring nothing but the best in the game into the spotlight. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. As the days finally become warmer and we start to thaw from the bitter cold, we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (May 7).

Raanan Hershberg at Roar! Comedy Club

If you find yourself on the other side of the state this weekend, but don’t want to miss the opportunity for a nice night out, you’re in luck. Hershberg is one of the best coming out NYC, and he’s constantly worked to make his name known all over the place, and it’s worked for good reason. He’s truly as real as they come, and he’s not to be missed during a rare trip near that Massachusetts-New York state line.

RAANAN HERSHBERG :: Friday, May 5 at Roar! Comedy Club, 1 MGM Way in Springfield, MA :: 8 p.m., $25 :: Advance tickets

Dan Crohn’s album recording at Off Cabot

It brings a little tear to our eye any time we see a locally-grown artist making moves in the scene, and Dan Crohn is no exception. As one of the best in the biz, around Boston or otherwise, Crohn is putting his killer comedy chops on record for only the second time, and we’re here for all of it. As will Emily Ruskowski and Gary Petersen. So you should be too.

DAN CROHN :: Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 at Off Cabot, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 7 p.m., $30 :: Advance tickets

David Cross at The Wilbur

Two heads are better than one. And when those two heads belong to David Cross and Sean Patton, two heads are better than everything else. It’s bound to be an all-out laugh riot as two of the best in the comedy game make their way back to Cross’ ye olde stomping grounds for a doubleheader of hilarity.

DAVID CROSS :: Saturday, May 6 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6 and 8:45 p.m., $42.50 to $142.50 :: Advance Tickets

Steven Wright at Porter Square Books

It’s always a treat to be in the midst of a legend, but when you’re also celebrating that legend’s latest “first” after a long career, it’s even more special. Moderated by fellow Boston comedy brother Steve Sweeney, catch Wright in discussion about his new novel Harold. It’s not stand-up, sure. However, when you have two comedy goliaths in the rooms with each other, you know there’s going to be quite the mix of laughs and thoughtful chatting.

STEVEN WRIGHT :: Sunday, May 7 at Porter Square Books: Boston Edition, 50 Liberty Dr. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m., RSVP for admission :: Event info
