There was a bit of Boston music history at the Rock And Roll Rumble‘s semifinals opener last night, as Jeff “Chip” Nicolai may have been the first musician in the festival’s 44-year run to perform live with two bands on the same night, and in back-to-back sets (first with wild card entry Bird Language, and then with semifinalist Ruin The Nite). Ultimately, it was The Chelsea Curve who emerged victorious at Sonia, and the mod-pop trio will compete in the May 6 finals at the Cambridge venue against two other bands from this weekend’s semis.
One of those groups will come from tonight’s Night 2 pool (the third a wild card entry via both semifinals battles), and the deck is appropriately stacked. This evening features prelim wild card entry and indie-grunge trio Tysk Tysk Task (9 p.m.); high-energy genre-benders Kooked Out (9:45 p.m.); melodic punk trio One Fall (10:30 p.m., pictured); and progressive post-hardcore newcomers Not Bad Not Well (11:15 p.m.).
After tonight, we’re officially on to the finals. But not before the “World Series of Boston rock” throws down another fun one. Preview the bands below.
