Band in the USA: Smashing Pumpkins unveil The World Is A Vampire Tour

A few weeks back we shared fan-filmed video of Peter Hook joining Smashing Pumpkins on stage in Mexico to cover a Joy Division classic. The scene went down at Billy Corgan’s The World Is A Vampire festival, a one-off launch event before the party travelled over to Australia for 10 additional dates. We wondered aloud if Corgan would bring things stateside, and now we can confirm he has: The World Is A Vampire Tour will play 26 shows across North America this summer.

The run starts July 28 in Las Vegas and wraps September 9 in Indiana, and along the way hits Gilford’s Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion on August 25 for the lone New England date. The tour will feature Interpol, Stone Temple Pilots, and Rival Sons as support (no STP on the local date for us), as well as appearances and performances from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA).

“I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong,” says Corgan. “That’s what The World Is A Vampire is about. Bringing back that sense of community. If you don’t fit in, you belong here. It’s about having a shared experience and respecting others, but ultimately having fun. A true alternative festival, where all the self-proclaimed weirdos and outsiders of the world can get together and have a party.”

Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday (March 31) at 10 a.m. local time, and as you can imagine, smashingpumpkins.com/tour has the details.

Meanwhile, Smashing Pumpkins have been slowly releasing new music from ATUM, the 33-track, three-act sequel to 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/Machine of God. The third and final ATUM act is out May 5, and new single “Spellbinding” is now streaming. Hear it below.
