When Brandi Carlile’s finished levitating with joy from her three Grammy wins this weekend, it looks like she’s going to float over to Marshfield to headline this year’s Levitate Music & Arts Festival. The annual fest celebrates its tenth anniversary this July 7 to 9 at the Marshfield Fairgrounds, featuring performances from Carlile, the Trey Anastasio Band, Shakey Graves, and Lucius. Levitate favorites such as Stick Figure, Ziggy Marley, Rebelution, and Boston’s own Ripe and The Elovaters will also return to the South Shore this summer.

As the Levitate embraces its 10th year as a festival and 20th year as a surf/skate shop, it expands its cultural offerings, boasting a “skate jam” with pro skater Nora Vasconcellos, a muralist gallery, live art, and artisan market for its 2023 edition. A hearty helping of homegrown artists rounds out the weekend, with performances from Connecticut trio Lespecial and Massachusetts acts Couch, The Q-Tip Bandits, Veronica Lewis, Steve Rondo, and The Birch Swart Band (with Anna Daley Young).

“It’s humbling to be hitting the 20 and 10 year milestones of Levitate Brand and Levitate Music and Arts Festival,” says Levitate co-founder Daniel Hassett. “We set out to provide a different kind of festival for our town, and New England, back in 2013 — championing our local musicians and artists and building a community who believe wholeheartedly in making the world a more creative and connected place. We’re excited to use this milestone to dig into our roots and expand our arts and mural programming, partner with more local vendors than ever, doubling our kids programs and expanding our greening efforts.”

Adds Jess Hassett, Levitate co-founder and artistic director: “It was thrilling to design the poster this year knowing how far Levitate has come and how the community has been behind it and has made what Levitate is today.”

General admission and weekend passes go on sale tomorrow (February 9) at noon Eastern time. One percent of all ticket sales will be donated to the Levitate Foundation, the brand’s non-profit organization that aims to “cultivate vibrant communities by creating and conserving access to music, art, and the outdoors.”
