Marc Maron teams up with HBO for latest special ‘From Bleak To Dark’

For as long as he’s been ripping it up behind the mic, the name of Marc Maron’s game has been expertly crafted jokes and stories balanced with a hearty serving of darkness and cynicism. With his latest project, however, it may be safe to assume that things are about to somehow get even darker.

Announcing his fifth stand-up special on Wednesday (January 25), which premieres at 10 p.m. local time on February 11 on HBO in the form of From Bleak To Dark, initial glimpses of the comedy veteran’s new hour seemingly imply that he hasn’t even remotely strayed from his path of being the well-articulated cynic we’ve come to love and respect. However, while we’ve always known him to inject a personal streak into his material, this batch of musings, crafted largely from his experiences during the pandemic, surely delve into some deeper, darker waters than we’re used to.

With his signature knack for hilariously detailed storytelling, the Boston University alum explores some universal topics as getting older, antisemitism and faith, and the superiority of having cats over children, while also opening up about the loss of his partner, Lynn Shelton, in 2020, and reestablishing his complicated relationship with his father.
