Will Dailey knows the most stressful holiday is ‘Christmas, Of Course’

Thanksgiving leftovers: Packed. Shopping list: Growing. Holiday music: Blaring. Stress level: Rapidly ascending. Millions of Americans will awaken from food comas today to realize we’ve entered the most wonderfully maddening time of year, and Will Dailey has just the tune to narrate the next four weeks of mirth ‘n’ misery.

Boston’s star singer-songwriter shared his new song “Christmas, Of Course” last week (November 25), elaborating on the family tension and wasteful extravagance that inevitably arrives with every December. “Catch a seizure from your sister’s decorations,” he sings on the second verse, followed by “I brace for your brother / His whereabouts on January 6 are suspicious.” And don’t forget those “piles of pretty paper, all torn apart, before it all goes to a landfill” spanning the entire living room.

Paired with the COVID-19 pandemic haunting our recent memory, Dailey’s lyrics are capable of sounding cathartic, rather than Krampus-level cranky. “These past two-plus years have felt like a constant game of catch-up,” he shares. “Many artists are performing shows now that were set up years ago. We are all just ready for a clean slate in 2023.”

Hear “Christmas, Of Course” below, and catch Dailey’s annual homecoming show on December 9 with with The Loyal Seas at Crystal Ballroom.
