When was the last time we all experienced something “biblical” at the cinema? It’s definitely maybe been a hot minute, innit? Well, good news: Liam Gallagher – Knebworth 22, the feature-length documentary on the Oasis frontman’s pair of shows earlier this year at England’s largest music venue, is coming to the big screen this Thursday (November 17). It plays at a trio of local locations just after supper: AMC Loews Boston Common 19; Showcase Cinema de Lux Patriot Place in Foxborough; and Providence Place Cinemas 16 and IMAX across state lines in Rhode Island. Tickets are on sale via LGKnebworth22.com, and that link has local information for each region.
Gallagher performed live back in June to 170,000 fans over two sold-out nights, returning to the iconic stage where Oasis infamously held court back in 1996, to celebrate his third solo studio album C’mon You Know.
“I’m still in shock that I got to play Knebworth two nights, 26 years after I played it with Oasis,” Gallagher says. “I’m still trying to get my head around it. To have played to multiple generations at the same venue so many years apart was beyond biblical. I’m so glad that we documented it. Knebworth for me was and always will be a celebration of the fans as well as the music. Enjoy the film and lets do it again in another 26 years.”
Liam Gallagher – Knebworth 22 also features interviews, behind the scenes material, and concert footage captured from 20 camera positions.
“We wanted to add another layer to Liam Gallagher’s life and story by not just commemorating his return to such hallowed grounds as a solo artist, but also sharing the light with those that make Knebworth such a landmark location — the people,” says director Toby L. “Few shows will ever hit such scale, and precious few moments such as the one experienced earlier this summer, can mean so much to so many. At a time when it’s easy to feel powerless to the weight of the world around us, hopefully this film can be a small reminder of what we’re capable of overcoming. It’s a love letter to live music and being together again.”
The theatre screenings, which are happening all around the world, will also feature two additional songs from the Knebworth performance to be shown after the main feature, and we’re told this footage is exclusive to cinemas and will not appear on any further release of the film.
Liam Gallagher – Knebworth 22 will eventually land on Paramount+ later this year, but it’ll be fun to hear these songs — a healthy dose of Oasis classics and his solid solo stuff like “Wall Of Glass” and “Everything’s Electric” — in a theater setting. Check out the trailer below.
