Dancing On Tables spin power-pop bliss on ‘How Do I Get Back To Her’

We love it when indie rock asks a question, even if we don’t know the answer. Fresh off The Wombats warmly asking “Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This?” earlier today, Scottish power-pop powderkeg Dancing On Tables are off their feet and head over heels with an infectious new single called “How Do I Get Back To Her,” turning the tables of a failed relationship and emerging with a total fucking earworm.

How to get back to her? Write a pitch-perfect tune like this one. “How Do I Get Back To Her” — note the lack of a question mark in the official title, yeah — will be featured on Dancing On Tables’ forthcoming debut album Colour In The Grey, set for October 14 release via Enci Records.

“‘How Do I Get Back to Her’ is a fast, fun song about the reflection on a ruined relationship,” the band admit. “It was originally a slow, somber track, but when we were in the studio, deciding which songs would make the cut, we played it at double the speed and instantly unlocked exactly how the song should feel. We’re firm believers that just because you have lyrics that look at a deep subject, the music behind should be able to tell its own story. In this case, it has a fast-paced, chaotic feel to it to represent what was a turbulent relationship that is now being viewed through rose-tinted glasses.”

The jam not only sets a tone for Colour In The Grey, but life as a young band overall: “The song is the first on the tracklist, so opening the album with the words ‘I’ve been trying to figure out where it all went wrong, you’ve been telling me to write it in a song’ is a sarcastic nod to the hectic life of trying to make it in music and all the highs and lows that go with it.”

If these are the types of songs Dancing On Tables are churning out, we think the highs will start outnumbering the lows fairly quickly. Groove with it below.
