Dragonette look (and sound) pretty damn great in this ‘New Suit’

Life is pretty strange sometimes. Earlier in the week we hyped the St. Lucia remix of The Knocks’ “Slow Song,” the New York duo’s recent collaboration with Dragonette. It got us thinking back to all the good times we’ve spent with Martina Sorbara back in the day — live shows at Great Scott, late-night dance parties fueled by tracks like “Hello” and “Easy” (that Buffetlibre remix still destroys) — and wondered what might come next for the electronic-pop project. Turns out the answer arrived shortly, as Dragonette returns today (August 3) with a spicy new single via BMG called “New Suit.”

Now a solo endeavor, this “New Suit” sure looks – and sounds — good on Sorbara, who described this vertical and empowering new tune as a “power-pop pep-talk,” as well as a “mash-up of retro and contemporary sounds and imagery.” It’s the first taste of Dragonette’s new full-length album, its first since 2016’s Royal Blues.

“The lyrics include classic words that are intended to ping-off digital era concepts,” she adds. “But at its heart, the song is about finding your way back to your power while the world keeps shaking up your life.”

We feel that. Check out the lyric visualizer below.
