Johnny Dynamite and The Bloodsuckers are everlasting with ‘The Last Ones’

Last year we called Johnny Dynamite and The Bloodsuckers purely unfuckwithable single “Bats in the Woods” one of the best songs of 2021. With a little time to reflect and a lot of time to listen to it on repeat since its May release, we’re upping the game and calling it one of the greatest songs of this generation. There’s an authentic retro-cool swirling around the Brooklyn artist that extends far beyond aura, the type of ’80s nostalgia that finds a middle ground between what the internet thinks the decade was like and what it actually was for those alive during it, and Sleeveless, the full album vessel that presented Sir Dynamite to the world, felt like just the early rumble of a rise from cult icon status to mainstream appeal.

Now the crew are back with another sterling track today (July 14) called “The Last Ones,” and it and its blood-soaked video are billed by Born Losers Records as a bit of a new wave Springsteen. That works for us. The track shimmers and glides with that now-trademark Johnny Dynamite cool, and once again we’re here for it.

“The Last Ones” is featured on a new four-track cassette release with label mates and collaborators Korine, which those on the West Coast were able to snag at one of the bands’ recent shows. Smoke ’em if you got ’em, as they say.
