Amandi Music closes the distance with slinky R&B single ‘Coming’

Look, “Coming” is a loaded title for an R&B song, but Amandi Music knows exactly what he’s doing. The Boston artist shares his newest single today (May 13), setting the tone for his June EP Smok(in) Mirrors Act 1 with a track that’s equal parts sincere serenade and wink-wink-nudge-nudge.

“What’s the point of you bein’ lonely?” he croons on the chorus, speaking to the isolation that’s colored the past two years. “Coming” is Amandi’s crusade against quarantine blues; he’s heard your call and he’s coming to the rescue… among other things.

“The pandemic definitely played a part in creating this [EP], because all the songs are relative to ‘closing the distance,'” he tells Vanyaland. “All songs are ‘what ifs’ because the pandemic kept us separated — but it heightened everything else. These are the expressions of those emotions, and a new level of intimacy without touch, but through hearing.”

The song slinks between sweet and sexed-up attitudes, right down to Amandi’s own reflections on his work. “You don’t have to think you’re alone, the solution is here,” he says — that’s the sweetness. “Problem solved (in a way that only an R&B artist can say).” Annnnnd there’s the sexiness.

Cozy up to “Coming” below, and keep an eye out for Smok(in) Mirrors Act 1 on June 13.
