Photo Gallery: Culture Abuse, Fiddlehead, Gouge Away and Politics of Jam in Somerville

Boston’s place in the hardcore music scene is a significant one. From the landmark 1982 record This is Boston, Not L.A. to this years Have Heart reunion show that reportedly drew more than 9,000 attendees, the city’s legacy within the genre is monumental. So when popular footwear brand VANS launched their latest campaign “Spirit of DIY”, Boston was an obvious choice to host one of the several pop-up activations taking place across the US. The campaign is described by VANS as “DIY activations [that will] will be unique to each location and will feature musicians and artists who’ve enabled the DIY culture since the ’70s along with individuals who continue the culture today.” The local event took place this past Friday (September 7) at Warehouse XI in Somerville’s Union Square. It was headlined by Culture Abuse, and also featured performances from Boston’s own Fiddlehead as well as Gouge Away and Politics of Jam.
