The ‘Last Christmas’ trailer wants to give you its heart

Last Christmas
Universal

It’s been a pretty weird year for the music-centric romance. We’ve had the absolutely miserable Yesterday, the sweet and smart Blinded by the Light, and now we’ve got perhaps the most unexpected of the bunch: Last Christmas, a George Michael-themed Christmas-set supernatural rom-com starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. We know you’re going to have to re-read that sentence a few times, so we’ll pause and let you glance over it until fully soaks in.

Anyways, Last Christmas looks pretty cute, all things considered, no doubt in part because it comes from some brilliant minds: Director Paul Feig, who rebounded well from Ghostbusters with last year’s A Simple Favor, and writer Emma Thompson — yes, that Emma Thompson — having crafted the screenplay. Apparently there’ll be an unreleased George Michael song featured somewhere in the film as well, which is sure to delight the late singer’s fans. Universal dropped a trailer for the film earlier on Wednesday, and, you know, we’re kind of interested in it.

Take a look:

Cute! Anyways, here’s a synopsis:

“Kate (Clarke) harumphs around London, a bundle of bad decisions accompanied by the jangle of bells on her shoes, another irritating consequence from her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Tom (Golding) seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers. As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart …and you gotta have faith.”

Last Christmas hits theaters on November 8. Man, that’s early for a Christmas movie! Is this the Hollywood equivalent of putting out the Halloween candy on July 5? We think so.
