Well, we hope you didn’t prepare on looking your finest at work today, folks. You’re going to be reduced to a blubbering, crying mess in about two minutes and thirty seconds, and you can 100% blame both Tom Hanks and director Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) for the reason that your make-up is smeared and/or your red, puffy eyes. That’s right, the first trailer for the Mr. Rogers movie, entitled A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, is here to make you smile and sob, and it’s basically weaponized sadness for men and women of a certain age.

We were wondering if this could do anything that the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? couldn’t, and you know what? It actually might! Anyways, you should watch this, but just be warned: we’re serious about the whole “crying at work” thing.

Here’s the trailer:

Wow. Well, we’re still not totally sold on Hanks’ casting as Fred Rogers, and we honestly think it just comes down to the voice. His baritone just kind of feels… wrong? Regardless, we’re pretty sure that Heller killed it, all things considered, and we can’t wait to check this one out later on in the year.

You don’t really need a synopsis for this, do you? Well, you’re getting one anyway.

“Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,’ a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.”

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood hits theaters on November 22. Go ahead and stock up on tissues.
