Christian Bale and Matt Damon hit the track in the ‘Ford vs. Ferrari’ trailer

Merrick Morton/Fox

Now this has been a long time coming. After years of development — and a pretty huge change behind the director’s chair in that process — we’ve finally got our first look at James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari, a film dramatizing the Ford Motor Company’s attempts to beat Enzo Ferrari’s superior sports cars at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And you know what? This is probably going to be your dad’s favorite movie of the year, so you might want to go ahead and get those Thanksgiving viewing plans ironed out. Fox (or is it Disney now?) dropped the first trailer for the film on Sunday night, and we’ve got to say, it looks pretty cool.

Take a look:

Well, that looks pretty good, we’ve got to say! Mangold’s a reliable and efficient filmmaker (just look at Logan for Christ’s sake), and this cast seems perfectly capable. Anyways, if this trailer has piqued your interest, we highly recommend you check out Ron Howard’s Rush from 2013. That’s an underrated little gem, and it’s still available at practically every VOD provider.

Here’s a brief synopsis:

“Academy Award-winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale star in ‘Ford v Ferrari,’ based on the remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles (Bale), who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.”

Ford v Ferrari hits theaters on November 15. By the way, can we put a ban on the usage of “Gimme Shelter” on trailers for the next couple of years? It’s getting to be a little ridiculous.
