Donald Grunge knows that country rap is on the rise. Where Lil Nas X has his surprise Number 1 Billboard hit “Old Town Road” — and its plethora of remixes — the Boston rapper offers up Cowboy Talk, his project from 2018 that fuses lively trap and hip-hop with blazin’ Western themes. The newish phenomenon of a musical style (shall we say clip-hop?) is epitomized in Grunge’s video for the title track, released last month. Filmed in dusty hills of Los Angeles, the vid for “Cowboy Talk” sports enough flashy leather boots, Southwestern scenery, and horse close-ups to sum up his 2018 project during two minutes of rapid-fire rap.

Grunge performs at Thrive Exchange’s one year anniversary show tonight (May 10) at Sonia, along with Jefe Replay, Pistola, DJ Lucas, and Bcuube; peep the new video below beforehand.
