Maps guides us towards ‘euphoric escape’ via new single ‘Surveil’

We’ve been experiencing an endlessly overcast cloud-cover throughout these early stages of New England spring, but if the sun’s warmth was ever to finally break through, we’d hope it would arrive next Friday (May 10), in unison with the release of Maps new album Colours. Reflect. Time. Loss. The English songwriter and producer thrilled us earlier this year with “Just Reflecting,” a striking composition that balanced the ambition of Sigur Ros with the reality of M83, and now Maps returns with the last teaser from the LP in the shape of its opener, “Surveil.”

“The opening of the track is resonant of a simpler time — as the song progresses I was pushing for a euphoric escape with the music, with an undercurrent of uncertainty from the lyrics,” Maps says. “It gives a taste of the overall sound and themes of the album.”

We’re excited to truly see what Colours. Reflect. Time. Loss. has in store, both as a soundtrack to our days and a compass for our path forward. As we await its landing via Mute, immerse yourself into the video for “Surveil” below.
