Look at all the Pokemon in the new ‘Detective Pikachu’ trailer

Growlithes, Bulbasaurs, and Lickitungs, oh my!

It’s been a pretty shitty week so far, and somehow, it’s still only Tuesday, so there’s a chance it could get even worse in the coming days. Happily, Warner Bros. Pictures has an antidote to all of those downer feelings, and they released it into the world earlier on Tuesday in order to try and counter-act all those feelings of frustration and sadness. Yes folks, this means that we’re getting a brand new trailer for Detective Pikachu, the year’s biggest surprise so far in terms of a seemingly dead-in-the-water blockbuster looking absolutely fantastic at first blush.

Take a look, and try to count all of the new Pokemon like it’s Pocket Monster Where’s Waldo:

We’re just going to say it: we are absolutely pumped to finally check out this wild-ass movie on the big screen. It looks like everybody — from the actors to the animators — had one hell of a time making this, and it shows in the final product. It’s got a solid sense of humor in the dialogue and in the visuals, and good lord, does this thing actually look pretty cool (our personal favorite Pokemon, the goofy pineapple-duck walking tequila mascot Ludicolo even makes an appearance here, tending bar at a local watering hole as he should be).

Here’s an official synopsis:

“The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City — a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”

Detective Pikachu hits theaters on May 10. We can’t wait!
