Foals have us reverse-running for the ‘Exits’

New Sounds: The Oxford band keep their rock groove intact and play Boston's House of Blues in the springtime

Four years ago this month, in a wild cover story in Esquire, Noel Gallagher dropped this tasty nugget about Foals: “You’re not seriously telling me that anyone is going to be listening to Foals in 12 years.” It was just one in an arsenal of disses Gallagher lashed out at pretty much everyone in modern music, and the Foals dudes seemed to take it in stride. But we’re a third of the way there, and we’re still listening to Foals. Take that, Noel!

This week Foals reiterated our affection with a slinky new single called “Exits”, the first street-walkin’ taste of their new two-part album Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost. The first hits March 8, a few weeks before Foals play Boston’s House of Blues on April 19.

“We couldn’t be more excited for you to hear all the work we’ve poured ourselves into over the past 18 months,” Foals write. “The albums which will be coming out are two halves of the same locket. They can be listened to and appreciated individually, but fundamentally, they are companion pieces. Musically, we pushed ourselves to the furthest limit. Lyrically, the songs resonate with what’s going on in the world at the moment. These songs are white flags, or mirrors, or attempts to work through the confusing times we live in… each in a different way.”

Eight years to go.
