Benny The Butcher delivers grimey New York ski-mask rap on ‘Tana Talk 3’

New Sounds: The Buffalo-born MC lives up to the Hot 97 hype and more on his most recent project

Bringing us nothing but grimey New York ski-mask rap, Benny The Butcher is like a breath of fresh air early in the morning. Maneuvering well and making big moves, the Buffalo native instills fear into those who would dare oppose him in the rap game.

In a much-hyped visit to Hot 97 a couple of weeks ago, Benny The Butcher displayed only a little bit of his talents as a spitter. In this specific moment in time, the man is what 2019 needed, and he’s doing it in ways he does best: Leaving instrumentals completely deceased. On his most recent project Tana Talk 3, which hit in November and is still simmering well into the New Year, Benny shows how versatile and how elite his rhymes can be.

Setting the bar high and setting the terms for rappers in 2019, Benny makes it quite clear he is “killing shit on spite,” as he references on “Goodnight.” With a close affiliation with Griselda Records’ own WestsideGunn & Conway and the impact of Tana Talk 3, Benny keeps his sights on the future of hip-hop and the direction it’s heading in. This being his first complete body of work, the 14-track effort includes features from WestsideGunn, Meyhem Lauren, Royce Da 5’9”, Melanie Rutherford, and Conway. With an appetite for gritty instrumentals it was only right that The Alchemist & Daringer were the two to have blessed this album from head-to-toe.

It’s worth multiple listens in order to absorb al that’s in play here, so preview it in full via Spotify below.
