Last weekend a few of us here at Vanyaland rolled up to Hampton Beach to watch Sebastian Bach remind us why Skid Row were so lethal in the late-’80s and early-’90s. There’s a certain attitude that’s missing from rock and roll these days, we were thinking during the sold-out show at Wally’s, and in its place is a whole lot of self-obsessed posturing and bombast for the over-filtered Instagram generation. Call it LivingYourBestLife-rock. What the world needs now more than ever is balls-out, fist-up, bullshit-free rock and roll, and right on schedule to quench our thirst for bluesy throwback rock firepower is Boston’s Cruel Miracle, who today (October 26) serve up a rocket cocktail in the sonic form of new single “What You Need.” There’s no press release, no pretentious press quote, just the song and its artwork depicting a plastic fuel tank and a lit match. We think that sums this up quite nicely. Fire up “What You Need” via Spotify or the Sir Ken Celli-edited lyric video below, which will position you well for sing-shouting the the words back at Cruel Miracle when they roll into your town.
