Social Distortion live at The House of Blues in Boston

SoCal punk stalwarts Social Distortion swung by The House of Blues on Saturday (October 6) while Landsdowne Street was bustling as the Red Sox were battling it out with division rival New York Yankees across the street at Fenway Park in Game 2 of the ALDS. Frontman Mike Ness, who was born in Lynn before relocating to Orange County, provided running updates throughout the show, at one point declaring, "I lived here for three months when I was a baby... I'm a Red Sox fan." Despite the hometown team dropping the contest 6-2 (but throttling the Yanks 16-1 the next game), the crowd was easy pickings in being won over by the rough and tumble frontman with his nod to being a quasi-local. And while it's been a too-long seven years since the D have released an album, the night was anything but a career retrospective. Two new songs, "Over You" and "Born to Kill," gave hope for something fresh, an anti-racism rant before set closer "Don't Drag Me Down" and two (!!) Johnny Cash covers in the encore kept things compelling enough. Check out the mini-gallery below.
