The forthcoming record from IAN SWEET, titled Crush Crusher and out October 26 via Hardly Art, is shaping up to be something wildly relatable.
Last month Jilian Medford unveiled the LP’s first track, an ode to taking care of one’s self called “Hiding”, and today she offers up “Spit,” a swirling torrent of emotive guitar rock that was inspired in seeing the bad in something that first appears good. “I wrote the song in the [beginning] stages of a relationship and was already having premonitions of ruining it,” Medford tells Noisey, which premiered the track. “Sometimes I like doing this type of songwriting where I predict how something will go. Writing a song for the future breakup. It’s fun but sad.”
We don’t know how the relationship turned out, but we do know Crush Crusher is slowly unveiling itself as a must-hear. Before the record’s release, IAN SWEET heads out on a 27-date fall North American tour, and it lands at Sonia in Cambridge on November 3. It’s a bit of a homecoming for the one-time Bostonian, so snap up those tickets in advance.
