Chris Moreno makes the best of a soured relationship in video for ‘It Was You’

One of the deepest losses experienced by Boston over the past year or so didn’t happen in the Super Bowl or any other field of play — it was singer/songwriter Chris Moreno packing up and leaving for Nashville. We’ve made similar claims regarding Sleeping Lion’s relocation to Los Angeles, but Moreno’s departure is felt just as much. Luckily, he’s got a series of live appearances around New England coming up this month, and today (September 4) he has dropped another music video that keeps him close to our hearts, minds, and playlists.

The video is for “It Was You,” one of our fave tracks off his May EP, Into The Night, which we first hyped back in March.

But we’re not the only ones feeling this very tolerable bit of pop-country.

“You guys have shown this song so much love, helping it get to over 110,000 streams since its release and I couldn’t be more thankful,” Moreno writes on Facebook. “I knew this was one that we had to make a video for. I hope you all enjoy it…”

Recorded in Nashville with producer Jonathan Roye, Moreno told us earlier in the year that the track “is a bittersweet one for me and probably my most personal yet. It wrote it at a time when I was struggling to move on from a relationship that had ended but still had a lot of good. For me, this one’s about choosing to celebrate the good moments rather than focus on the bad.”

The “It Was You” video was directed by Ken Schmidt and stars actor Morgan Barnsley. Watch it below, and catch Moreno at The Goat in Portsmouth on September 15; at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar in Foxborough on September 20 (you’re forgiven if you skip that one); and at the Marriott Boston at Copley Place on September 21.
