Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.

A few weeks ago Bearstronaut rolled back onto nightclubs with a bit of a dance-punk strut, throwing down kinetic new single “Working Nights”. As is life, those nights have now given way to morning, and the Boston quartet kick off the workweek this a.m. (July 2) with a sunny new jam called “Miracle Mile” that’s hotter than the midday sun.

And you need not be outside to feel it.

“Miracle Mile” stretches out the sun-kissed vibes and sets sail for summer on a yachtian fit that celebrates both ’70s-era pop (like a descendant of Starbuck’s 1975 hit “Moonlight Feels Right”) and that modern cascading machinations of electronic-pop that has shaped Bearstronaut’s evolving sound over the past several years.

“This song is part of the new material we’ve been working on since Telecoast,” frontman Dave Martineau tells Vanyaland. “And with the approach being slightly different than what we’ve done in the past, we can’t wait to play this song and some others we’ve got ready to go. Coming out of Telecoast was different for us to figure out what we wanted to do creatively, but ‘Miracle Mile’ was something that developed out of all of us in one room throwing ideas at the wall. I had these lyrics for a long time and honestly was never sure if they would see the light of day, but alas they found a home in something that was very unique for us sonically which made it a lot more exciting. I wanted to create something with the lyrics that would give some quick, absurd vignettes.”

This track, like the one before it, is ushering a new era for Bearstronaut, extending an arc that began at the start of the decade as the charter member of this website’s previous life as a record label.

“The main thing with this song, as well as ‘Working Nights,’ [is] we just wanted to challenge ourselves to have fun and not make song writing such a painstaking process. Our goal post-Telecoast wasn’t to begin writing another album right away per se, it just so happened that we’ve ended up with a chunk of material that we love as of late. We’ll see if it becomes an LP or EP, right now we just want to put content out there that we feel good about. While it might be a lot different from our previous releases it is a true statement of where we’re at now creatively and can’t wait for everyone to hear it!”
