Beach House gaze onward and forever on ‘Dark Spring’

This is how the new Beach House album begins — literally. A while back the Baltimore dream-pop duo announced new LP 7, due out May 11 via Sub Pop. Today, we hear the record’s opening track in “Dark Spring,” a slightly frantic wave of sounds and moods that suggests 7 is onto something special. “Throughout the process of recording 7, our goal was rebirth and rejuvenation,” Beach House stated earlier this year. “We wanted to rethink old methods and shed some self-imposed limitations. In the past, we often limited our writing to parts that we could perform live. On 7, we decided to follow whatever came naturally. As a result, there are some songs with no guitar, and some without keyboard. There are songs with layers and production that we could never recreate live, and that is exciting to us. Basically, we let our creative moods, instead of instrumentation, dictate the album’s feel.” Allow it to engulf you below, and note the upcoming Beach House tour dates; most notable, an August 24 appearance at Boston’s House of Blues.
