Young Galaxy’s ‘Frontier’ is a yearning fit of restraint and emotion

Montreal dream-pop duo Young Galaxy are readying the independent release of new LP Down Time this Friday (April 6), but touch down in advance with “Frontier,” a wonderfully restrained fit of yearning and emotion.

“Frontier,” now complete with a music video that can be viewed below, serves as the manifesto for Young Galaxy’s upcoming album. One the track was realized, Down Time grew around it.

“‘Frontier’ is the core and the data from which all the rest of the songs derive their meaning,” says Young Galaxy’s Catherine McCandless. “It needed to be a stripped down signal coming in to a loved one. With a concept of intimate detail, high contrast, and work-like, utilitarian dress we shot a non-performance performance video featuring light, textures, bravery, and braun. I wanted to shoot a love letter that fortifies, works for change, and spills over in its celebration of the place of this love.”

Young Galaxy head out on a mini-tour of North American coastal cities and Canada this month, though there’s no New England date on the itinerary.
