New Sounds: Dwight & Nicole dirty up the ‘Hi-Lo’ funk in advance of ACLU benefit

Last month, the ongoing Boston Stands With The ACLU series assembled a “Guitarmy” in the name of charity. This Sunday (November 19) at The Sinclair in Cambridge, organizers are going hard in the lanes of funk and soul, enlisting Dwight & Nicole, Jesse Dee, Giant Kings, The Revelations for a pre-Thanksgiving week throwdown that should bring the year-long series’ charity numbers across the $50,000 mark (check the numbers here).

We knew the night was going to be fun. But now we realize it’s gonna be downright dirty, as Dwight & Nicole today released a nasty little jam called “Hi-Lo” that’s got our shoulders and knees moving in directions we never thought possible. We always knew Dwight Ritcher and Nicole Nelson had the voices to make us shake, but now they’re dropping a nice bit of raw grit into their eclectic mix.

The new single from the Vermont-based trio, which you can stream below, is the accompanying track to their summer jam “Wait,” and 100 percent of proceeds from sales this weekend — including online — will be donated to the ACLU.

This is usually the part of the post where we tuck in a quote from the band, getting some additional explanations, but in this case, we’ll just let it ride and let “Hi-Lo” do the talking.
