Lick & Morty: Select McDonald’s serving Szechuan Sauce on Saturday

Once upon a time back in 1998, life was simpler, and McDonald’s introduced Szechuan Sauce for a limited time as a promotional tie-in to the then-new Disney flick Mulan. Almost 20 years later, Mickey D’s is bringing the sauce back for exactly one day on account of a different cartoon, Rick and Morty.

After mentioning Szechuan sauce in the season three opener of the popular Adult Swim show, the fanaticism that ensued online caused the chain to announce that it would be serving the chicken tender dipping sauce at limited locations this Saturday (October 7). Among the spots serving up the stuff will be the McDonald’s in Kenmore Square at 540 Commonwealth Ave.

We should have seen this promotion coming when Ricky and Morty co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland tweeted a photo of a jug of the goods sent to him from McDonald’s in July.

Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the sauce will be available at select McDonald’s restaurants across the country for one day only. The only two locations in Massachusetts that will have it in stock are the aforementioned Commonwealth Ave. eatery and the Holyoke location at 233 Whiting Farms Road.

Other locations partaking in the special one-day promotion include Providence (649 North Main Street), Manchester, New Hampshire (196 South Willow Street), and Norwich, Connecticut (79 Towne Street).

Get in line on Saturday, and get ready to dip into some saucy (heh) nostalgia.
