Last weekend during the 2017 Video Music Awards, fans were outraged after MTV cut short its televised tribute to Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington. Later this month in New Hampshire, a host of New England bands are ensuring their own tribute to the late frontman is carried out without interruption.

Organized by Missing the Action singer Dylan Ross, ChesterFEST goes down September 23 at the Bungalow in Manchester, and will raise money for suicide prevention and mental health education group Hope For The Day. On July 20, Bennington took his own life and was found dead in his California home.

"We were all really shook by the sudden passing of Chester," Ross writes to Vanyaland. "He influenced a lot of musicians all over the globe. We just want to honor both him and everyone else who has, or who has ever considered, taken their own life. Like Hope For The Day motto, it's ok not to be ok, and that's a message we really want to share with the rest of the Northeast."

Taking part in Chester Fest, in addition to Missing the Action, are Boston bands Dreamer & Son, Time Traveler, and Rogozo; Maine singer-songwriter Jordan Coffey, and Lowell's Toluca Lake. Ross says all of the bands have been inspired by Bennington's music over the years, and the show will feature the band's original sets with Linkin Park covers sprinkled in.
