Oh Sees and Castle Face Records launch auction to benefit women’s homeless shelter

A few weeks ago we shared news that Oh Sees would play their first Boston-area show in about seven years, a September 13 date at The Sinclair in Cambridge. Since that post, they’ve dropped the “Thee” in their moniker, and this week have released a new song called “Animated Violence” alongside an auction designed to raise money for the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles.

The heavy-as-all-hell “Animated Violence” is featured on the band’s upcoming album Orc, which is due out August 25 on Castle Face. The label is auctioning off test pressings of various affiliated albums, hand-painted by Oh Sees ringleader, Castle Rock co-founder, and Providence native John Dwyer, with all money raised going to the health and shelter facility. There are 14 in existence.

“We here at Castle Face are committed to making positive change in our community, and the homelessness epidemic in downtown Los Angeles is a tragic and complex issue,” writes Castle Face co-founder Matt Jones in a statement. “Homeless women in particular are an especially vulnerable population and we are happy to help out in any way that we can to assist in permanent solutions for them and our community. This auction features test pressings of the last smattering of John Dwyer’s projects with the label — Coachwhips, Oh Sees, and Damaged Bug are all represented — and feature one of a kind artwork on the jackets by the man himself, rendered in black and glow in the dark ink.”
