Listen: Halsey emerges ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ with new track ‘Not Afraid Anymore’

Halsey

After six months of every radio station known to mankind blasting drab Halsey collab “Closer,” the alt-pop starlet has released new music — and thank goodness, because we couldn’t stand to hear her under-utilized vocals on the mysteriously successful single once more. Halsey starts fresh in 2017 with “Not Afraid Anymore”, her first solo song since the singles from her 2015 debut album Badlands.

The new track appears on the soundtrack for Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker, whose soundtrack thus far appears to be much better than either cringe-y flick. Halsey’s company on the album includes Tove Lo, Sia, and a duet featuring Nick Jonas and Nicki Minaj (we’ll believe that one when we hear it).

Halsey’s contribution is the second to be the released from the album — the smoldering duet between Zayn and T. Swift came first, naturally — and the full soundtrack will be available February 10.

Much like “Closer,” the new tune doesn’t give off the vim and vigor that Badlands did, but we have faith that her signature bite will come back on her sophomore album.

You can tune into the ballad via iTunes as we await a YouTube clip to surface at some point this morning.
