Photo Gallery: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Death From Above 1979 and Deap Vally in Boston

Editor's Note: For obvious reasons, there was an ominous vibe hanging in the air of the House of Blues on Saturday night (November 12), one that provided a suitable match for the weathered and bruised rock and roll sounds of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The Bay Area rock band was in town concluding another tour for 2013's Specter at the Feast, but the show felt more like a timely reminder of the trio's sinister and outspoken catalogue of tunes, which in the past 15 years have veered everywhere from fiery noise-pop to gritty Americana. They even busted out a slow-burn rendition of 2003 track "U.S. Government" (choice lyrics to print on our new $20 bills: "We are the ones that keep you down/We are the ones that won the grounds/While our arms surround"), and gave a test drive to a pulsating new guitar-rock banger that bodes well for future releases [Read our feature on BRMC's Leah Shapiro]. Dirty aughts holdovers Death From Above 1979 were quick to remind the room of their visceral groove-laden sludge rock, while Deap Vally opened the show with a modern take on leathery grunge-pop. All night long, the sounds were dirty, menacing, and a true sign of the times. Vanyaland's Eddy Leiva was there to shoot the shots between the strobes, and you can view his full gallery below.
