Listen to Protomartyr’s eerie entry in the Adult Swim Singles series, ‘Born To Be Wine’

Protomartyr's new album, Under Color of Official Right, comes out April

After launching in May, the weekly Adult Swim Singles series has already given the world new music from Ryan Hemsworth, Dawn Richard, DJ Paypal, and Clark. As we await new entries from Run The Jewels, Die Antwoord, and Vince Staples, Detroit’s Protomartyr have provided maybe the standout track so far on the 25-band/artist showcase, a menacing, noisy, Suicide-esque semi-spoken word track called “Born To Be Wine”.

Stream it below and via Soundcloud. Here’s what the band has to say about it, via Stereogum:

“‘Born To Be Wine’ was written and recorded in two days in March of this year. It was recorded by Chris Koltay at his Hi Bias Studio in Detroit and features contributions from Zak Bratto and Jake Kmiecik-Percussion, John Olson and Wade Kergan-Sax, and Trevor Naud-Dulcimer. The title comes from mishearing a Frenchman talking about his favorite rock and roll songs, while the lyrical sentiment takes in louche, elder rockers confined to man caves and a list of fearsome things that were ruminated on during a particularly dire phone interview.”

It sounds just as dirty.

Protomartyr have a string of live dates in North America and the United Kingdom to take the boys to mid-November. Unfortunately, there are no New England dates, but the band did play Great Scott back in May. You were probably at that. See all their dates after the Soundcloud jumpery.
