‘If you’re gonna text, stay home’: Watch Slipknot’s Corey Taylor slap a phone out of a fan’s hands

Note to everybody going to see Slipknot on the road with Marilyn Manson this summer: Don’t text during the show.

One fan learned the lesson the hard way. In a video posted by the Iowa metal band from an undisclosed recent gig, frontman Corey Taylor can be seen walking up to the front row, mid-song, and slapping the phone out of a young fan’s hands. We don’t know if the kid was texting, checking in, or playing Pokemon Go, but hey, eyes up at all times when Slipknot’s on stage.

There is, remarkably, a happy ending.

“It’s actually funny — afterward, the dude totally understood the fuck-up and we laughed together,” Taylor tweeted as he engaged fans in discussion of the incident. The kid in question does appear to smile in the screen grab up top.

One person admitted she texts a lot at shows to check in on family, in particular her asthmatic daughter. Taylor responded: “Fair enough. But you might wanna do it between sets or between songs. Am I right?” And later, he added: “Okay, but it doesn’t mean that I, with a broken neck and still playing a show, can’t get pissed that someone’s ignoring it.”

The Slipknot and Marilyn Manson tour does not come to Massachusetts. It did, however, hit the Xfinity Theatre in Hartford, on July 8.
