Awkward: Jon Bon Jovi reluctantly sings ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ with overzealous wedding band

In his current DirecTV ad campaign, Jon Bon Jovi sings about the ability to “turn back time”. If he truly had that Cher-like ability, he might reconsider attending a recent wedding.

According to Stereogum and other outlets, Bon Jovi was a guest at a private wedding reception in Miami, and sure enough, the wedding band busted out a jazzy cover of “Livin’ On A Prayer”. Word is that the band’s singer, Lourdes Valentin, approached the seasoned rock star beforehand about joining in for some duet action, but Bon Jovi politely declined. That should have been the end of it. But what does Valentin and her band do? Play the song right the fuck in front of him and pressure him into getting up to sing.

C’mon Jon, don’t ruin the party.

In watching the uber-awkward video below, it actually seems like Bon Jovi only agreed to sing a few notes after hearing her butcher the song’s lyrics — was that “we’ll take it elsewhere” we heard? At one point, Valentin even pushes the lyric sheet closer to JBJ, as if he needed a reminder for perhaps his biggest hit.

The entire video is pretty incredible.

From Cool Coconut Studios in the YouTube description: “It was great filming this wedding for Jennifer and Charlie, and it was amazing that Jon made such a surprise by coming onto the stage and singing ‘Living on a Prayer’ together with the local Jazz singer Lourdes. Everyone is really happy we got this on video :)”

Heh.
