Speedy Ortiz, Stephen Malkmus to play Boston Calling after parties; watch them all on stage together

We’ve often wondered why (or how) Speedy Ortiz haven’t played the main stage of Boston Calling yet. Next weekend, they’ll do the next-best thing, as they headline the festival’s official Saturday after party at the Sinclair in Cambridge. The Massachusetts rock band’s post-fest bash is the second of two after parties at the Harvard Square rock club, with the first coming the night before (Friday, September 25) and featuring festival performer Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks.

Joining Speedy Ortiz on Saturday will be Guerrilla Toss and Aye Nako. No other artists have been added to the Malkmus show just yet, but that’s cool. Malkmus performs Saturday afternoon at City Hall Plaza on an afternoon filled with goodness: alt-J, Walk The Moon, CHVRCHES, Father John Misty, Grey Season, and others.

Of course, Speedy Ortiz and Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks are quite familiar with each other’s work. Watch them all on stage together performing Pavement’s 1992 jam “In The Mouth A Desert” last June at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle. Maybe they’ll all party together at some point next weekend.

Some helpful and understandable show promo is lined up first…
