Someone to ‘Lean On’: Listen to Tribe Society’s alt-rock ‘re-fix’ of the Major Lazer banger

Back in the early ’80s, Duran Duran told us that “The Reflex” was an only child and he’s hiding in the park (whatever the fuck that meant). More than 30 years later, Tribe Society is here with “The Re-Fix,” and its task is making already killer songs even better. This is called cultural progress.

Earlier today, the latter pop group unveiled their edit of Major Lazer’s “Lean On“, a summer banger that features guest vocals from Danish electronic singer MØ. The Tribe Society rubdown showcases what the Boston/New York crew does best, adding slick alt-rock grit and some sweet-ass flutes into the mix.

Maybe — just maybe — they’ll bust this one out when they headline the Vanyaland-curated Sound Of Our Town music festival, going down September 24 at the Lawn On D. The free celebration, kicking off Boston Music Awards season, pulls together a wealth of homegrown talent, like Ruby Rose Fox, Will Dailey, Vundabar, Bearstronaut, Oh, Malô, Mikey Holland’s “American Denim” supergroup paying tribute to Boston classics, and host/MC Moe Pope.
