Ryan Adams is busy covering Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ LP, as ‘played by the Smiths’; Tay freaking out

From taking on the Stones to the Strokes and Backstreet Boys to Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams has done a lot of pretty cool covers over the course of his career. But his latest project, announced earlier this morning via social media, might be his grandest yet, tackling Taylor Swift’s entire chart-topping new album 1989. And in his words, he’s doing it “as played by the Smiths.”

Adams shared a brief clip of album opener “Welcome To New York,” on his Instagram a few hours ago, which you can hear a snippet of below. Moving right along, Adams and his band already banged out “Style,” and apparently “Blank Space” has a “deep end Smiths vibe.”

Head, meet explosion.

“Badass tunes, Taylor,” he tweeted. “We’re sandblasting them and they’re holding steady.”

Meanwhile, it didn’t take long for Tay Sway to catch wind of all this.

“Cool I’m not gonna be able to sleep tonight or ever again and I’m going to celebrate today every year as a holiday,” she tweeted at Adams a few hours ago. “I’M CALM.” She also tweeted that she was going to “pass out” if it was actually happening.

We can’t wait until he gets his hands (and head) on “Shake It Off.” Check out his progress below.
