Fallon channels his inner Letterman after Courtney Barnett slays ‘Pedestrian At Best’

Ever since David Letterman retired a few weeks ago, there’s been a bit of a lull in the late-night TV live music schedule. Not just in performances that get people talking and posting the morning after on social media, but in the pure enthusiasm of the show’s host. Last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, our man Jim did his best Letterman impression after Courtney Barnett slayed a rendition of her breakout hit “Pedestrian At Best.”

C’mon! C’mon! That’s the way to do it!” gushed Fallon.

The way to do it was a four-minute guitar-rock blitz from the Australian musician, playing one of the best tracks of 2015 and the first cut off this year’s Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit LP. In his introduction, Fallon correctly noted that Barnett’s debut album been awarded “massive, massive critical acclaim.”

Barnett will play Newport Folk Fest next month, and we can hardly wait. Watch her Fallon performance below, and check out our photo gallery of Barnett’s recent gig at the Sinclair here
