Home Field Advantage: Speedy Ortiz added to Solid Sound Festival, replaces Taj Mahal

Speedy Ortiz have been called upon to replace Taj Mahal. How’s that for majestic?

The Western Massachusetts rock band was today added to Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival set for later this month, June 26 to 28 at MASS MoCa in North Adams. Speedy Ortiz are filling in for blues musician Taj Mahal, and will perform on Friday. The lineup also features Mac Demarco, Real Estate, Parquet Courts, Richard Thompson Trio, Tweedy, Cibo Matto, and others.

Solid Sound made the announcement moments ago.

We are disappointed to announce that Taj Mahal has been forced to cancel his upcoming performance at Solid Sound due to health issues. The silver lining is that our Northampton, MA neighbors Speedy Ortiz are stepping in to fill the vacated spot in our Friday night lineup.

We’ll miss Taj and wish him a restful recharge. We welcome Speedy Ortiz and look forward to their set kicking off our weekend.

Speedy Ortiz just wrapped up a seven-week tour in support of new record Foil Deer. They play Terminal 5 with Courtney Barnett on July 22, and make a few summer music festival appearances — including Outside Lands and Riot Fest — before heading to Europe this fall. Here’s the rest of the Solid Sound lineup. Single day passes for Saturday are sold out.
