Back in January, Vanyaland caught up with Gary Cherone while Extreme were celebrating the 25th anniversary of Pornograffiti. Naturally, part of the conversation focused on the Boston band’s massive hit “More Than Words,” and the positives and negatives it has brought Extreme over the years. One of the positives, you could say, is that the 1991 hit, and its black-and-white video have remained a part of pop culture for nearly three decades, and last night it got the parody treatment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Fallon teamed up with Tenacious D’s Jack Black to re-create the familiar video scene by scene, even bringing in some ringers to play the bored roles of bassist Pat Badger and drummer Paul Geary, who aren’t featured on the acoustic ballad. Black plays Cherone, and Fallon is the new Nuno.
