Boston’s Arc Nightclub & Lounge, formerly An Tua Nua, has reportedly closed indefinitely

UPDATE February 15, 9:06 a.m.: Here’s the statement from Arc’s owners:

An Tua Nua & Arc

We have decided to close the Arc. We have had a great time over the last 16 years. The problem was we have not had a lease for over 5 years and received a eviction notice last year from the landlord. We have some great memories over the years especially Marathon days and The Red Soxs finally breaking the curse. We would like to thank all our loyal patrons over the years. We have only good memories and hope to move the license to a new location in the near future

Thank you, Kevin and Joe.

Friday nights are usually when nightclubs are busiest. On this Friday night, word came down that one of Boston’s nightclubs has shuttered.

Arc Nightclub & Lounge, the former An Tua Nua bar and club space that relaunched as a chic nightlife destination in spring 2013, has closed indefinitely. DJ Static, resident of the weekly goth and industrial party Ceremony, relayed the news via Facebook, and other event promoters at the 835 Beacon St. space have confirmed the closing to Vanyaland.

No official statement has been made by Arc ownership, and the venue’s last social media update (Facebook, Twitter) was on February 8.

From DJ Static:

Got word, Arc Nightclub & Lounge is closed. Very unfortunate.

First off, I want to thank the staff from ARC and, of course, its past entity An Tua Nua for always being very welcoming to CEREMONY. Through all the changes in faces over the years, the owners always made it known “never touch Ceremony”

So, now obviously, the question. What’s going to happen with CEREMONY?

well, February has been a HORRIBLE month for weather. Mother nature really let us have it on Mondays. So we’ve been closed for MOST of the month so far. I don’t think we will be set up anywhere this Monday. Especially with the storm coming through this weekend. But I will be working to get something going VERY SOON.If we miss a few more to come back regrouped and ready to go, it will be worth it.
Of course, we REALLY miss you guys these past few weeks. But , very soon, we will be turning our Mondays dark again

-James (DJ Static)

p.s. – Ceremony is FAR from over

In addition to hosting the Monday night party Ceremony — the longest-recurring weekly dance night in Boston at 17 years — Arc was also building a reputation for bringing in better known EDM artists, like Felix Da Housecat, Skream, and Derrick Carter. Last March, we profiled DJ John O’Leary, who was a guest at the Superstition party’s post-punk night.

In July 2013, just after the venue’s opening as Arc, we reported on its logo, which borrowed symbols and imagery from the Freemasons.

More info on Arc’s future, if it has one, as it develops.
