Attack of the ’90s: Babes In Toyland join Ride as reunion darlings at Primavera Sound

Ever since news broke of Ride reforming to perform live at Primavera Sound music festival, we’ve been eagerly awaiting news of the full performer lineup. And now we have it.

The Strokes, Patti Smith (performing Horses), Sleater-Kinney, Julie Ruin, Alt-J, Belle & Sebastian, Panda Bear, and the Replacements lead the headlining bands on the massive, multiple-day lineup, but also of significant note, to us, at least, is the inclusion of reformed Minneapolis ’90s punk-grunge trio Babes In Toyland.

The Babes first floated the reunion news last June in a radio interview with Pasadena College, and have (we think) their first live show coming up February 12 at the Roxy in Los Angeles. This festival news — even if it’s across the Atlantic in Spain — tells us that more Babes In Toyland shows are on the way, possibly later this summer or fall. The band currently features its Fontanelle-era lineup of Kat Bjelland, Maureen Herman, and Lori Barbero.

Of New England newsworthiness regarding Primavera is the lineup inclusion of Central Massachusetts band the Hotelier, who won Punk Act of the Year at last year’s Boston Music Awards.

Here’s the full Primavera lineup. It all goes down May 25 to 31 in Barcelona.
