The Coke’s For Mew: Taylor Swift teams up with feline friends to preview a new song via soda ad

Taylor Swift’s bubbly DGAF-pop mega-jam “Shake It Off” is one of our favorite songs of 2014, so we were naturally a bit disappointed by the moody, monotonous, and more serious follow-up off her upcoming 1989 album, this week’s “Out Of The Woods.” While the media was distracted by whether or not the song was about Harry Styles, we just drifted back to “Shake It Off,” especially in a week where the haters were certainly busy hating.

Thankfully, it only took a day to get yet another slice of 1989, though this one’s just a snippet… and it’s in a new Diet Coke ad.

The track, which isn’t named and not yet released, features the lyric “And that’s how it works, how you get the girl, girl” and it’s much closer to “Shake It Off” than “Out of The Woods.” It sounds like a hit, though who knows if it’ll be the next single or just an album cut. We’re into it.

“What would life be like if it tasted as good as Diet Coke?” asks the ad’s tagline. “Taylor Swift has an idea. Get a taste of her new album, 1989, in stores on October 27.”

The 30-second clip also features something else that caught our attention: cats. A whole fucking lot of them, including Tay Sway’s own Olivia Benson, the same kitty who was famously insulted recently by comedian John Cleese.

Check out the song — and the cats — below.
