Closed, Again: Guided By Voices break up, end comeback run, cancel all remaining dates

Guided By Voices are commemorating the ten-year anniversary of their first breakup with, well… another breakup. The venerable indie rock band from Ohio posted a note to its website earlier today, and announced that all 12 remaining live shows on their 2014 calendar — including a hometown gig October 4 at Oddbody’s in Dayton — have been cancelled.

Some words from Stereogum: “The Ohio indie-rock legends reunited their classic mid-’90s lineup in 2010 for a run of shows that turned out to be semi-endless, and in January 2012 they released Let’s Go Eat The Factory, which turned out to be the first of six LPs in just over two years.”

Here’s the band’s breakup note, which delivers much with less fanfare than their previous split. We’ll relay more info as it becomes available.

Guided By Voices has come to an end. With 4 years of great shows and six killer albums, it was a hell of a comeback run. The remaining shows in the next two months are unfortunately canceled. Our sincere apologies to those that have purchased tickets and made travel plans. Thanks to everyone who has supported GBV.
