Two For Two: Ryn Weaver makes pop ‘Promises’ on sterling second single

A few weeks ago, Ryn Weaver caught the attention of pretty much everyone within a few short hours of releasing her debut single, “OctaHate.” The mystical pop track, posted to Soundcloud and now well past the million-play mark, was a quick introduction to the Los Angeles-born, New York-based musician, who had some impressive names in her production corner: co-writer Charli XCX, Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos, DJ/producer Cashmere Cat, and pop music producer Benny Blanco.

Now it looks like she’s officially signed to Blanco’s Friends Keep Secrets label, and yesterday we received a new song to digest. “Promises” is another bit of smartly-constructed modern pop, and just like “OctaHate,” you can hear Angelakos’ touches all over it.

A lot of Weaver is still a mystery — we think she’s a real person and not something created in a pop lab somewhere — but her music alone is giving a good glimpse into a future star.
