Office Party: Watch Mayor Marty Walsh drop the ceremonial ‘first beat’ yesterday @ Together

The fifth-annual Together music, art and technology festival in is full swing this week, and yesterday, they brought in some political heat from the bullpen: new Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.

Yesterday in the Seaport District, Together co-founders David Day and Alexander Maniatis, along with globe-trotting DJ duo Soul Clap, welcomed Walsh to drop the “first beat” for Together, similar to someone throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park (we know you know that, duh).

Dubbed DJ Marty Mart, hizzoner 2.0 fired up fellow Dorcester native Donna Summer’s 1977 disco hit, “I Feel Love.” Between this and yesterday being dubbed Barry Gibb Day by the City of Boston, the Mayor is outing himself as quite the disco fan.

More importantly, he’s also outing himself as a proponent of youth culture in Boston.

“We’re talking a bout how do we capture the young people, and keep the young people in the city of Boston, and three of the words that we use all the time are right here on this board: music, art and technology,” said Walsh. “And we’re using technology a lot more in City Hall, we’re using technology we’re promoting technology throughout the city of Boston.”

On deck in the clubs tonight for Together: Noisia at the Middle East; DJ Bob Mould and Group Hug at the Sinclair, Tensnake at Bijou; and Pearson Sound & Jacques Greene at a secret location (ask around).

And be sure to go here to stay connected to all the workshops, art exhibitions, and technology sessions.
