No Holding Back: Listen to Gozu give the stoner metal treatment to Simply Red and D’Angelo

Nearly a year after its initial release, Gozu’s incredible LP Fury of a Patient Man is getting the vinyl treatment, and it’s bringing along some friends, namely Simply Red and D’Angelo.

The Boston stoner rock band’s covers of “Holding Back The Years” and “Shit, Damn, Motherfucker,” respectively, will be featured on the record’s limited-edition double-vinyl release, out the first week of March via Small Stone Recordings. There’s also a third bonus track, an original, titled “Break You.”

Gozu guitarist Douglas Allan Sherman says there was no rhyme or reason for choosing the two covers, which are both stretched out passed the seven-minute mark. “We just didn’t wanna end up doing another Sabbath cover,” he tells Vanyaland.

The Fury vinyl will be limited to 500 units of on 180-gram wax, with a wide spine jacket, poly-lined sleeve, and two colors — LP 1 is “clear green,” and LP 2 is “solid purple.”

“Only 500 will ever be made,” Sherman adds, so grab yours via the Small Stone online shop or at the Middle East in Cambridge on March 28 when Gozu plays a label showcase alongside Mellow Bravo, Lo Pan, Roadsaw, and others. From there, Gozu heads off to Europe for a string of dates, including Roadburn festival in the Netherlands and Desertfest in Germany.
