Take My Hat: Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos just accused Pharrell of plagiarism

Pharrell has been everywhere lately, but the unlikeliest place he’s shown up today is on Alex Kapranos’ twitter feed. This morning, the Franz Ferdinand frontman accused the producer extraordinaire of lifting the riff of his band’s debut hit “Take Me Out” for Paloma Faith’s latest single, “Can’t Rely On You.” The latter was written and produced by Pharrell, and he even appears on the track.

Game on!

Here’s Kapranos’ tweet:

What do you guys think? That riff is pretty much Franz’, but it’s not the most original piece of music ever created. You be the judge:

  1. Franz Ferdinand took the riff and vibe from Led Zeppelin’s “Trampled Underfoot” who in turn took the concept from Robert Johnson’s “Terraplane Blues” so I don’t even know what to think anymore.
